The Keyrenter Story:
A Journey of Innovation and Growth
Keyrenter Property Management was born out of necessity and vision, beginning with a small real estate team determined to solve common property management challenges.
In 2006, Aaron Marshall, a successful Keller Williams broker, and Nate Tew, his business partner, were immersed in the fast-paced real estate world. Aaron's team specialized in bank-owned, foreclosure, and short-sale properties, navigating the challenges of the 2007 financial market crisis. By staying ahead of market trends, Aaron's team achieved extraordinary results earning them national recognition, with The Wall Street Journal naming them one of the Top 100 Sales Teams for two consecutive years.
As the market shifted, they began purchasing hard-to-sell properties to help clients avoid foreclosure, eventually building a portfolio of rental properties. However, managing these investments proved frustrating. Existing property management companies failed to meet their needs or deliver the level of service his clients expected.
Developing a Better Way
In 2008, Aaron and Nate launched their own property management company to manage their rentals and meet the growing demand in their local market. They believed that many of the industry's pain points—tenant issues, inefficiencies, and negative experiences—stemmed from a lack of developed systems, modern technology, and proactive customer service. Their philosophy was simple: success comes from building strong relationships with property owners and tenants while delivering a seamless, professional experience.
By 2011, the company rebranded to Keyrenter Property Management to reflect its core mission: providing rental owners with the "keys" to stress-free property management. Through automation, technology, and scalable systems, Keyrenter redefined what was possible. By 2013, they were managing hundreds of properties with a small team. Innovative tools like virtual tours and automated leasing processes enabled them to deliver 24/7 services while staying efficient and cost-effective.
The Leap to Franchising
Recognizing that property management challenges were widespread, Aaron and Nate decided to scale their proven systems nationally. In 2013, they began developing the Keyrenter Franchise Model to empower local entrepreneurs with the tools, training, support, and expertise to build successful property management businesses in their own markets.
Franchising offered a unique opportunity to combine Keyrenter's streamlined systems with local expertise, essential in a relationship-driven industry like real estate. In 2014, Keyrenter sold its first franchise and held its inaugural training session in early 2015 with four franchisees.
Continuing the Legacy
The journey hasn't been without its challenges. In 2021, Aaron Marshall passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. His entrepreneurial spirit, vision, and relentless drive left an indelible mark on Keyrenter and its growing network of franchise partners. Nate Tew, who had long focused on building and refining the company's processes, stepped forward as CEO, ensuring that Aaron's legacy continues to shape the business.
Today, Keyrenter Property Management stands as a leader in the property management industry. With a commitment to innovation, relationship building, and franchise partner success, Keyrenter continues to transform the way rental properties are managed—one market at a time.
Our Vission
The two believed that underdeveloped systems, a lack of automation, and poor customer service were driving dissatisfaction and mistrust. Too many companies seemed determined to answer the question how NOT to be a property manager.
They set out to start a company that would not only meet, but exceed expectations, and deliver value and peace of mind.
Keyrenter was established to revolutionize property management through integrity, innovation, and a commitment to excellence. Our core mission is “changing lives one property at a time.” One of our foundational beliefs is that it’s important to build strong relationships with property owners and tenants.
Our Approach
From the start, our approach has been to provide superior customer service and to leverage technology to streamline processes. Our focus on quality and innovation sets Keyrenter apart from other property management companies and has helped our 100+ locations average a 4.7 review rating on Google.
Our proprietary software increases productivity, and makes it easier for owners to start a property management business and run it effectively with fewer people. For example, we offer virtual tours and property viewings that can be accessed via a QR code.
Today, Keyrenter is a trusted name in property management, known for our extremely low eviction rates, excellent customer service, and a network of franchisees who share the same passion for excellence.
The journey from a small real estate company to a leading franchise brand is a testament to the founders’ vision and dedication to improving the lives of property owners and tenants.

Why There’s Strong Demand for Keyrenter
Property managers have a unique role in that they have two sets of clients: landlords and tenants. A good property manager is able to keep both sets of clients happy with excellent customer service. And this ultimately benefits landlords because keeping a reputable name is of utmost importance to them.
Challenges that landlords may face with their property managers include:
- Poor communication.
- High management fees.
- Inadequate tenant screening.
- Delays in maintenance.
- A lack of transparency in financial reporting.
Additionally, inconsistent rent collection, high tenant turnover, and lack of control over decisions contribute to dissatisfaction. Compliance issues arise if property managers fail to stay updated on regulations. These issues lead landlords to feel their properties aren’t being managed effectively, increasing costs and stress.
Tenants can face similar challenges Include:
- Poor communication and slow responses to maintenance needs.
- Unclear lease agreements.
- Inconsistent rule enforcement.
- A lack of flexibility with lease renewals or move-in/out schedules.
- Privacy violations.
- Poor management of shared facilities like pools and laundry rooms.
- Disputes over security deposits.
These issues create distrust and tension between property managers and tenants.
